Stockholms Skärgård

Spring finally came to Stockholm. Coincidentally, so did the desire to hit the seas and explore the Archipelago. Some 24,000 islands make up the Stockholms skärgård. Ferries leave hourly from many ports and Stockholm center. Our journey led us from Vaxholm, one of the largest cities in the skärgård to Finnhamn, the historic "last chance" before crossing the open Baltic on the way to Finnland.

Vaxholm

The skärgård is dotted with thousands of summer homes and vacation cottages mainly owned by Stockholmers, out here the few locals refer to us as "08'ers" (oh-eight-ers) because the dailing code to the city. This time of year was perfect for a cruise on one of Vaxholmbolaget's many ferries that operate even during the off-season.

Right about here the camera died completely. Unless I remember the magenta skies incorectly...
